Avonside Troop - Scouts

This page is an ongoing list of names of Scouts who were in the Avonside Troop, the years they were there and anything we can find on them.  Hopefully it will be in chronological order, but sometimes names are just that, and no more information can be found.

 

Sgt. L. Morgan

Founding member, 5 years in the Troop - left mid-late 1914 according the November 1914 Avonside Parish Leaflet.  He is also noted in the Junior Bible Class)

 

Leader L Barrett, &

Corporal Barrett

Both are said to have been withdrawn from the Troop in mid 1914 over a misunderstanding, although that this was apparently regrettable - especially for Leader Barrett.

 

Leader R. Inglis 

Replaced Leader Barrett 

 

Cpl. W. Hickenbottom

Replaced Corporal Barrett to became Leader R. Inglis's new corporal

 

Sgt. Shadbolt

(Sgt.)? V. Whitcombe (later Leader)

Both said to have been re-welcomed to the Troop in mid-1914

 

Leader K. Pullar

Promoted when in November 1914 16 new members were noted over the last few months requiring two new patrols to be formed

 

W. Owen

Promoted to Quartermaster Sgt in late 1914

 

Corporal Shadbolt (Later Leader)

promoted to Leader when W. Owen was promoted to QM-Sgt.

 

Cpl. D. Pullar

Promoted in late 1914

Won the 1914 senior champs at the sports day
