Rhodes Convalescent Home Garden Fete - Avonside Troop Guard of Honour

10 Recently the sad news came to light[1] that the Rhodes Convalescent Home, one of Christchurch's more significant links to its past, has been demolished due to damage sustained in the recent earthqukes.  The home had been mostly repaired and stabilised from the September 4th quake in 2010 when the February 22nd quake struck and not only undid all the repair work, but caused walls to collapse and destabilised the entire structure - putting nearby buildings at risk .

9 The Avonside Troop has one significant tie to this site - it was the location of one of the three Guards of Honour they held for Lady Liverpool and her Husband the Governor General that Chief Scoutmaster Brown refers to when He wrote asking if the Lady would be the Troops Patron.

It is with sadness that we mark the passing of this building.
